Where it is pricier
Tourist promenades, marinas and the more upmarket north are higher priced, as are restaurants right by the sea and on the famous squares, and renting or buying in the sought-after coastal towns.
Where it is cheaper
The villages and inland are cheaper, as are local bars where Spaniards go. The weekday menú del dÃa and the weekly market save a lot.
Groceries
The known supermarkets vary in price level; see the Supermarkets page. The market and local shops are often cheaper for fresh. A few smart choices save a lot.
Eating and drinking
A terrace in a tourist spot costs more than a local bar. The caña and the menú del dÃa are good-value options.
Transport
Public transport is often cheaper than a rental car or taxi, especially in and around Alicante. For remote spots a car can be handier.
